A liver transplant is a surgical procedure in which the doctor removes the liver that is not functioning properly and replaces it with the healthy liver from a living donor or deceased donor. The liver is the largest organ that helps to process nutrients, produce bile, remove toxins from the blood and regulate immune responses.

Liver failure is the major cause of liver transplant. It happens due to scarring of the liver (cirrhosis). The scar tissues replace the liver tissue and affect liver function.
