Know this before Covid-19 Vaccination

• Which vaccine is given in India for Covid?

Covishield of Serum Institute of India and Covaxin of Bharat Biotech are the two

vaccines which are approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI).

Drugs Controller General of India said that they would not approve the vaccine

if there were major side effects. They also assured the vaccines are safe.

Hence, Covishield and Covaxin are given in India for Covid. 

• What are the side effects of Covid vaccines?

Covid vaccines induce some minor side effects like allergy, pain and mild fever.

These side effects are common for every vaccine. 

• Can pregnant women and lactating women take the vaccine?

There is no data on safety in pregnant women and lactating women.

Hence, they were excluded from the trials.

• What is the ideal gap between 1st dose and 2nd dose?

The second dose should be administered between 4 to 12 weeks after the first dose

of the vaccine. 

• Who should not get Covid vaccine?

Children (Less than 18 years old), people with allergies, pregnant women and

lactating women should not get vaccinated. [People with a known medical condition

should consult a physician before getting vaccination]

• Can I put another brand vaccine for the 2nd dose?

The vaccines are not interchangeable. Hence, the second dose will have to be

the same vaccine that was administered as the first dose. 

• Can a covid-19 vaccine make me sick with Covid-19?

No. The covid-19 vaccines cannot make you sick with Covid-19.
